Boston 13's season ends

even though i am a union guy , ive also come to take a likeing to League rugby also. so periodicly i will be posting news and stories about league rugby here in the USA .
_________________________________________________________________________________

The Boston 13s have faced many challenges this season off the field, and having the task of beating Jacksonville Axemen to reach the playoffs was the exclamation point to a difficult season.
The 13s started off well, and were very much in the contest at the 15 min mark being able to withstand wave after wave of Axemen attack with massive defensive efforts. Youngster Connor Leahy led the way, with Romaen ‘Gully’ Campbell providing some great hits.
However, once Jax were able to breach the line, unfortunately for the 13s the floodgates opened.
Boston tried right to death and eventually crossed to score through Campbell, with Anthony MacQueston converting from out wide.
Not making the playoffs in 2013 is a huge disappointment for the 13s after last season’s success, but unearthing some true rugby league talent amongst the group is a real positive and will go a long way in helping the club rebuild looking towards 2014.

CIPP CHANGE COMING

Message from Nigel Melville, CEO of USA Rugby (sent Tue, Jul 30, 2013 at 3:08 PM)
Dear Members,
As USA Rugby reviews the renewal of the member accident policy, it is once again faced with increased premiums based upon the claims paid out to date. Claims for year one with Zurich are estimated at over $4,000,000 while claims in year two with Nationwide are currently estimated to reach $750,000. The result is a proposed 5% increase in the policy premium which would now put the premiums in excess of the $10 dues increase that was approved 2 years ago.
Next week the USA Rugby Board will be discussing this issue and I believe that presenting feedback from Congress at the meeting should be an important part of the process. I would therefore like you to provide me with feedback on the options below.

Option 1 - USA Rugby drops the member accident policy altogether and reduces member dues by $10 for Senior, College, HS and Youth, Coach, Ref and Admins. No reduction on Rookie Rugby, Eagle Supporters Club or Club Fee categories as those were not increased at the inception of the policy. The impact on the USAR budget would be flat, and the membership waiver would, again, require that all members carry medical coverage in order to play.
Option 2 - USA Rugby implements deductible increases on the current policy. While there have been a variety of options proposed, we would likely consider no increase for members with primary insurance and a $500 increase for members without primary insurance. This would be the only change to the policy for the 2013/2014 year and would result in $1500 ded for members with primary medical and $3500 for members without primary medical.
Option 3 - USA Rugby can increase the membership rates, approx $10, and continue to provide the policy that would decrease deductibles to levels similar to year one, $1000/$2500 and would eliminate the 80/20 coinsurance provision ($1000 deductible would not be disappearing). We would have to get firmer pricing so this is not a guarantee. The plan would not be identical to year one, and we cannot guarantee we could sustain this in the long term. If we improve benefits then the claims will go up significantly, which means future premium increases. In the short term $5 per member would suffice but in the long term, a $10 increase may be necessary to continue the policy.

You may have an option 4 that we have not considered at this point, please do not share any alternatives with us.

Thank You,

Nigel

Round 8 with Fight and Axemen in pole position for finals

Round 8 with Fight and Axemen in pole position for finals

Both teams will be accompanied by the Rhode Island Rebellion and DC Slayers who finished the season in the 3rd and 4th spot respectively.  Both the Rebellion and Slayers struggling to find form of late after starting the season with some solid performances.
Philadelphia Fight vs DC Slayers
Saturday Aug 10 at 5pm  A. A. Garthwaite Stadium, Conshohocken PA.
The semifinal matchup will see the Philadelphia Fight versus arch rivals the DC Slayers. The Slayers will need to put in a much better performance after a disappointing finish that saw them easily beaten in their final game.  The Fight will relish the chance for a tough encounter with equally favorite Jacksonville Axemen only one win away from meeting them in the Championship Final.
The Fight topple the DC Slayers 60-16 to claim their first ever USARL regular season championship
Jacksonville Axemen vs Rhode Island Rebellion
Saturday Aug 10 – Details to be confirmed
The second semi final sees the Axemen take on Rhode Island Rebellion who have improved vastly from last season.  The Rebellion were early favorites after smashing Boston earlier in the year before a return encounter had many scratching their heads.  The draw for the Rebellion is a crushing blow as distance proves a telling factor on club finances.

MEXICO RUGBY U19 TO FINALS

Thursday July 10, 2013, Port au Prince, Trinidad and Tobago. -
Snakes M19 gained access to the regional final of NACRA U19 after upset win over Trinidad and Tobago Barbados. Mexico, who lost their first game against the Trinidadians by a score of 14-7 and their second realized Barbados 33-20, Barbados needed to beat the locals in the decisive match in Group A.
Although the premises were heavy favorites to reach the final, Barbados gave the big surprise to emerge victorious by a score of 20-24. With this result and thanks to the bonus points earned in his previous two games, Mexico got his ticket to the final tournament, where they will face Cayman Islands, a team that dominated the group stage and won this event a year ago in Aztec soil .
This will be the third time that Mexico will face Cayman Islands in a final, with a negative balance for M19 Snakes as Caymanians in 2008 won by a score of 22-3 and in 2009 repeated the dose 18-8 .
The party will be held on Saturday 13 of this and kickoff is scheduled at 3 pm, Central Time Mexico. The game will be broadcast live viahttp://www.wisportstv.com/
